Forty years on: Pershing’s GTX evolution in 2026

Reading Time: 4 minutes

Last summer saw Italian shipyard Pershing Yachts celebrate its 40th anniversary in Capri, during a three-day event that brought together owners, fans of the brand, and partners against a backdrop selected with care and dedication that Pershing is known for.

Understanding the relationship between performance and place, the milestone celebration, which centred on speed, style, and innovation, was also a statement of intent and direction for Pershing. Shaping the industry’s definition of fast Italian sport yachting in 1985, now four decades on, Pershing looks to redefine what a performance yacht is actually for through its GTX range.

GTX: a deliberate evolution

Officially introduced by parent company the Ferretti Group at the 2022 Miami International Boat Show, the GTX range aimed to transform the 20 to 40 metre sports yacht market. Since then, as Ferretti Group’s sales director Alessandro Tirelli put it, the GTX series has reframed Pershing’s sales pitch “away from speed” as the core focus to a broader, more family and lifestyle-oriented experience. The result is what Pershing calls the ‘Sport Utility Yacht,’ a concept that retains the shipyard’s performance credentials while opening up significantly more usable deck space, beach club amenities, and owner-operability than the X Generation models that preceded it.

But do not be alarmed, the Pershing yachts GTX series is by no means a replacement for the X Generation range from Pershing. The X Generation series, including the 5X, 6X, 7X, 8X, and 9X, remains in production and is the ideal choice for owners who value speed and high-performance above all else. The series surface-drive propulsion, narrow aggressive hulls, and top speeds put up a good fight against potential other competing models. It’s best to view the GTX series as a parallel offer from Pershing, as it represents a genuinely different and more versatile proposition for many potential buyers.

Since its introduction in 2022, Pershing has expanded its GTX range considerably. The first model debuted in and the current flagship model, the GTX116, firmly established its concept: a 35-metre Sport Utility Yacht powered by triple MAN V12s on waterjets, capable of reaching speeds of 35.5 knots. Launched in 2023, she offers 150 square metres of outdoor areas, a full beach club, and a five-ensuite stateroom layout that works as well in the Caribbean as it does in the Mediterranean. The GTX80 followed, bringing the design philosophy into a more owner-operable, family-oriented package, ideal for buyers who want the aesthetics and performance of a Pershing GTX without the crew or overhead of the larger sister model.

The GTX range today

Most recently, the GTX70 made her world debut in Capri during the 40th anniversary celebrations. Measuring 21.76 metres in length, she is the entry model and most compact in the GTX series. But don’t let her size fool you. Powered by triple Volvo Penta IPS1200s, giving her a top speed of 35 knots, her exterior areas are reportedly 30 percent larger than comparable models in her class. It is the GTX philosophy distilled into its most agile format, and the GTX70 is already available through TWW Yachts for those looking to step into yacht ownership.

Lastly, the GTX90 is the final piece in the GTX puzzle. A 27-metre model sitting between the GTX80 and GTX116, she was first announced earlier this year at Boot Düsseldorf. Featuring waterjet propulsion and a performance profile that steps up meaningfully from the IPS-driven models below it, the first hull is already under construction at Mondolfo, with her public launch set to take place at the 2026 Cannes Yachting Show. Her debut will complete the GTX range across four distinct size points, giving buyers a fully realised alternative to the X Generation at every level.

What the GTX evolution has created, in practical terms, is one of the most interesting and varied moments in Pershing’s brokerage and new-build history. Buyers have genuine choice across two distinct philosophies — the performance-first X Generation and the lifestyle-led GTX range — at multiple size points and price levels. Whether you are considering a pre-owned X Generation model, a new GTX commission, or something that has yet to surface publicly, navigating that range well requires knowing the market from the inside.

At TWW Yachts, we work across the full Pershing ownership journey — new build, brokerage, and off-market — and we understand the nuances of both ranges in depth. If you are exploring what the current Pershing market looks like for you, we would welcome a direct conversation.
